How to stay happy, healthy at work

Individuals who work in a healthcare profession commonly give advice to clients about ways to stay healthy in mind, body and spirit.

Working in a healthcare profession is a very rewarding job. However, due to job stress and long hours, healthcare professionals themselves are at risk for picking up on unhealthy habits.
Here are some suggestions to help maintain healthy habits to stay healthy and happy at work to better serve your clients:
Get adequate sleep. Although healthcare professionals may work odd and long hours, we know getting enough sleep is vital to staying healthy.
Are you having trouble falling asleep? Currently, the American Occupational Therapy Association suggests establishing a bedtime routine or trying some relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or visual imagery before bed.
Choose water. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, water helps your body in a multitude of ways. It increases energy, eliminates wastes, and helps with weight management.
Is your water boring? Add lemon wedges or try using other favorite fruits to increase flavor.
Work ergonomically. Also according to the American Occupational Therapy Association, good ergonomics can help prevent injury and promote safety.
Consulting with an occupational therapist to help identify potential barriers and implementing ergonomics to meet the specific demands of your job can be beneficial.
In conclusion, healthcare professionals often have demanding but rewarding jobs.
To best serve your clients, it is important to maintain your own personal health and to lead by example, both now and in the future.
