Hi Tap, it was pointed out that some Toothpaste might still be available which don’t contain Fluorides. Those named were AloeDent Sensitive fluoride-free, Auromere Herbal Toothpaste, & Tom’s of Maine fluoride-free toothpaste. 
This might be so, but they also contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (Na-LS), ( ANIONIC SURFACTANT, & you probably use it EVERY DAY), like most others, here is a Search Engine  EWG. Cosmetics DataBase you can try it out to find out

A long list of chemicals that you can’t pronounce is not in itself toxic – even if it looks it. But an analysis of these 3,163 chemicals in EWG’s Cosmetics Database shows that there is the reason for concern.
In fact, 1 in 20 earned a “high” hazard score (7-10 of 10), and a full 1 in 6 rated at least a “moderate” hazard score (3-10 of 10). 25 of them scored a 10, the highest score:
There is one I was very surprised they use viz STYRENE or Vinyl Benzene,  The Phthalates, & Hydroquinone I knew they used. The Names alone should tell you to Steer Clear

Acetone: Nose, throat, lung and eye irritant, headaches, confusion, increased pulse rate, effects on blood, nausea, vomiting, and unconsciousness, coma. Shortens the menstrual cycle in women. Effects of long-term exposure include kidney, liver and nerve damage, increased birth defects, metabolic changes, and coma. Found in nail polish remover.
Acetaldehyde: Found in many nail care products. Known to cause cancers in humans and experimental animals.

Aspartame: Genetically Modified, a synthetic sugar substitute. People report dizziness, headaches and even seizures. Scientists believe it can alter behavior due to altered brain function. Long-term effects of this genetically modified organism on human health have not been studied or tested. Benzene: Inhalation of high levels can cause headaches, rapid heart rate, tremors, confusion, unconsciousness and death. Hodgkin’s and Lymphomas result from inhalation. Used in detergents, drugs, pesticides and adhesives.

Benzoic / Benzyl / Benzene: Contains carcinogens, endocrine disruptor, may cause birth defects. Found in shower gels, shampoos, bubble bath.

Bisphenol A or BPA: a Toxic plastic chemical used as a can lining in brands of some infant formulas. Also found in water bottles, this chemical is used to produce polycarbonate and epoxy plastics. For babies, check food container labels and beware of polycarbonate plastic baby bottles. Chemical reactions can occur when plastic is heated.

Bisphenol A or BPA: a Toxic plastic chemical used as a can lining in brands of some infant formulas. Also found in water bottles, this chemical is used to produce polycarbonate and epoxy plastics. For babies, check food container labels and beware of polycarbonate plastic baby bottles. Chemical reactions can occur when plastic is heated.

Hydroquinone: A severely toxic and very powerful chemical. Banned in the United Kingdom, but still used in the U.S. Found in skin lightening products and hair dyes, this chemical alters the skins natural structure inhibiting the production of Melanin. Without natural protection, the skin is more susceptible to skin cancer. Prolonged use of Hydroquinone will thicken collagen fibers damaging the connective tissues. The result is rough blotchy skin leaving it with a spotty caviar appearance.

Monosodium Glutamate/MSG: MSG is an excitotoxin, which causes nerve damage and allergic reactions. Found in hundreds of foods, often under other names. See our Monosodium Glutamate / MSG section for more information


Soy: Contains several naturally occurring compounds that are toxic to humans and animals. Soy foods block calcium and can cause vitamin D deficiencies. One health agency estimates than 100 grams of soy protein provide the estrogenic equivalent of the pill. Processing and all modern soy foods contain MSG, which cause neurological problems. Soy products inhibit thyroid function, which may lead to fatigue and mental issues. Infants on soy formula are vulnerable to developing autoimmune thyroid disease when exposed to high amounts of isoflavones over time. These Isoflavones have been found to have serious health effects, including infertility, thyroid disease or liver disease,…..

SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate): Builds up in heart, lungs, brain and liver from skin contact and may cause damage to these organs. Corrodes hair follicles and may cause hair to fall out. Damages immune system. Contain endocrine disruptors and estrogen mimics. Impairs proper structural formation of young eyes. May contain carcinogenic nitrosamines. This is a detergent derived from coconut oil and may be labeled natural or even organic. Found in toothpaste, soap, shampoo, body wash, bubble bath, facial cleansers.

Toluene: Poison to humans. Hallucinations, bone marrow changes, may cause liver and kidney damage and birth defects, endocrine disruptor and potential carcinogen linked to brain cancer. Irritates respiratory tract. Found in nail polish and cleaning products.

Triclosan: Found in a lot of antimicrobial soaps and toothpaste products, it can react with chlorine in the tap water to create Chloroform. This is a toxic chemical that can give you cancer. If you breathe enough chloroform, you will die. When you wash your hands with antibacterial soap that contains Triclosan, you are getting the fumes emitted from this chemical reaction.

Vinyl chloride: Used to create PVC (polyvinyl chloride) a known carcinogen. Often found in toys. Children chewing on toys can release toxins into their bodies. * see PVC

Zinc Stearate: Carcinogen. Found in blush and powder foundation

Soap power: Handwash chemical linked to cancer

Washing your hands with antibacterial soap may be dangerous, a new US study reveals. A chemical found in many liquid handwashes and other basic household products like shampoos and toothpaste has been linked to cancer.
Triclosan is an antimicrobial agent of broad-spectrum and one of the most common additives used in a wide range of consumer products, from kitchenware to toys. Studies have also found traces of the chemical in 97 percent of breast milk samples from lactating women and in the urine of nearly three-quarters of people tested. Triclosan is also common in the environment, being one of the seven most-frequently detected compounds in streams across the US.
Researchers from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, have found that triclosan causes liver fibrosis and cancer in laboratory mice through molecular mechanisms that are also relevant in humans. 
"Triclosan's increasing detection in environmental samples and its increasingly broad use in consumer products may overcome its moderate benefit and present a very real risk of liver toxicity for people, as it does in mice, particularly when combined with other compounds with similar action," study leader Professor Robert H. Tukey stated in a press release. The full study has been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on Monday.
Tukey found that triclosan disrupted liver integrity, compromising liver function in mouse models. Mice exposed to the chemical for six months (roughly said to be equivalent to 18 human years) were more susceptible to chemical-induced liver tumors. Their tumors also proved to be larger and more frequent than in mice not exposed to triclosan. 

The researchers say triclosan may cause harm when interfering with a protein responsible for detoxifying foreign chemicals in the body, the so called constitutive androstane receptor. As a result, liver cells proliferate and turn fibrotic. In the long run, continued liver fibrosis boosts tumor formation.
Triclosan is under scrutiny by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The agency stated on its website that while it currently doesn't have evidence that triclosan added to antibacterial soaps and body washes provides extra health benefits over soap and water, "consumers concerned about using hand and body soaps with triclosan should wash with regular soap and water." 

The US scientists also recommend avoiding products that contain triclosan, except for toothpastes where the amount used is small. 

"We could reduce most human and environmental exposures by eliminating uses of triclosan that are high volume, but of low benefit, such as inclusion in liquid hand soaps,"
 one of the researchers, Professor Bruce D. Hammock of the University of California said.

How To Properly Wash Fruits And Vegetables To Remove The Harmful Chemicals

With using a few simple tips, you can protect yourself and your family from the raw food poisoning. Before the washing of the fruits and vegetables, you need to clean the work area and the cutting boards and then you need to wash your hands good with soap and warm water.
If the equipment is not clean, bacteria from the surface of the raw foods could come in contact with them during cutting and peeling.
If you want your fruits and vegetables to be healthy for eating you need to wash them good and remove the bacteria and chemicals which are found on the surface, and rinsing it with water is often not enough.
The green leafy vegetables need to be separated and kept submerged in water for several minutes. Then the leaves need to drain and the procedure must be repeated. The water will be enough for vegetables with organic origin, but if you are not sure of the way of the cultivation, wash it with vinegar.
Mix two cups of water with half a cup of distilled white vinegar and soak the leaves of the vegetable in this mixture for 5 minutes and then rinse with clean water.
Dry with a clean kitchen towel. In this way the presence of bacteria is reduced, but not removed and the vinegar may partly affect the texture and taste of the food.
Vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower need to be kept in cold water for a minute before washing it with water or the combination of vinegar and water. Vegetables and fruits with thick skins, as tomatoes and mangos, need to be cleaned with a brush which is exclusively designed for raw foods before the washing.
You need to wash the fruits even if you do not eat the peel, like watermelon and melon, so the bacteria from the surface are not exposed on the area during the cutting. Most of the bacteria will retain on the remains on that area with which some foods may be covered.

In this case at first it is necessary to rinse the foods under running water and wipe them nicely and then prepare them for eating. Besides the vinegar, the combination of salt and lemon juice acts against pesticides and bacteria.
Fill a bowl with water and add a teaspoon of salt and juice from one lemon. Put green fruits or vegetables in this mixture and let them stay like that for 10 to 15 minutes.
Then rinse with water, dry and serve. If you do not want to wash foods with anything other than clean water, then soak them in water during the night and in the morning rinse them with lukewarm water.
Do not wash fruits and vegetables right after you buy them because in this way they will spoil faster. You can wash the food before use in the following ways.
The spray for the chemical removal has to act for at least ten minutes
Vegetables and fruits can be washed with the help of the spray which is simple to prepare. Buy a bottle with aerosols and wash it.
Add a tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice, two tablespoons of vinegar and 250 ml of water in it. Close it strongly and tightly then shake so you can mix the ingredients.
Spray the fruits and vegetables before use, leave it for ten minutes and then rinse them under running cold water. Wipe with a clean towel before peeling and cutting. After rinsing, the taste and smell of vinegar will not be felt.
The cabbage, eggplant, cauliflower and pineapple are the least treated foods
The intake of fruit and vegetables treated with pesticides can be reduced by buying organically produced food but this is financially impossible for many people.
If you can not buy organic foods, choose the ones which are treated with pesticides. In this group are cabbage, garlic, asparagus, tomato azure, quiver, cauliflower, mango, kiwi, avocado, pineapple and oranges.
However, in citrus fruit you need to pay more attention and the use of their skin is not recommended, for example in the preparation of cakes.

Dangerous Chemical Leaking Into Food, Raising Blood Pressure

The chemical used to make plastic bottles and canned goods may play a role in raising blood pressure and increasing the risk of heart disease. It’s hardly the first report pointing to the dangers of consuming BPA, or bisphenol-A.
Previous studies have shown that constant, long-term exposure to BPA can affect sexual development and result in brain impairment. Now, a new study carried out by researchers at Seoul National University College of Medicine in South Korea shows that it can also lead to a visible increase in blood pressure.
The researchers, who recently published their findings in the journal Hypertension, asked 60 participants to drink soy milk from either a BPA-lined can or a BPA-free glass bottle. The scientists then examined the participants’ blood pressure and vital signs and took urine samples.
The researchers found that people who drank from BPA-lined cans had 16 times more BPA in their urine than people who drank the milk from glass bottles. Yun-Chul Hong, a physician and one of the study’s co-authors, says this is evidence that BPA can leak from packaging into food.
The researchers also found that those people who drank from the BPA-lined cans had higher blood pressure readings than people who drank from BPA-free glass bottles. Hong says this is an alarming finding “because hypertension, or elevated blood pressure, is a well-known risk factor for heart disease.” Taking things a step further, Hong suggests that “BPA exposure may increase risk of heart disease.”
Laura Vandenberg, a health expert based at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, says these findings are very alarming. “I must say, I was surprised to see that exposures to beverages containing BPA would have a measurable effect on a health outcome like blood pressure,” notes Vandenberg, who says the study “should definitely be repeated with a broader group of volunteers.”

Five myths about the chemicals you breathe, eat and drink?

All too often the use of the word “chemicals” in the news, in advertising and in common usage has the implication that they are bad. You never hear about chemicals that fight infections, help crops grow or lubricate engines. That is because the chemicals doing that job are called antibiotics, fertilisers and engine oil, respectively.
As a result of the emotive language often used in conjunction with “chemicals”, a series of myths have emerged. Myths that Sense about Science and the Royal Society of Chemistry are debunking with the publication of Making Sense of Chemical Stories. Here are five of the worst offenders.
1. You can lead a chemical-free life

Despite the many products that claim otherwise, using the term “chemical-free” is plain nonsense. Everything, including the air we breathe, the food we eat and the drinks we consume, is made of chemicals. It doesn’t matter if you live off the land, following entirely organic farming practices or are a city-dweller consuming just processed food, either way your surroundings and diet consists of nothing but chemicals.

2. Man-made chemicals are dangerous
So we have established that there is no way to lead a chemical-free existence. But surely natural chemicals are better than synthetic ones?
Nope. Whether a chemical is man-made or natural tells you precisely nothing about how dangerous it is. Sodium thiopental, for example, is used in lethal injections but it’s about as toxic as amygdalin, which turns up in almonds and apple seeds. What makes one of these chemicals dangerous and the other part of your healthy five-a-day is quite simply the quantity that you consume.
Granted there are many documented cases of man-made chemicals that have been banned due to health concerns. But on balance chemicals have done far more good than harm. A good example is brominated flame retardants which are no longer used in furniture due to allegations of unpleasant side-effects. However these worries should be balanced against the estimated 1,150 lives saved because the chemical stopped furniture fires spreading.
Even substances that are upheld as terrible cases of chemical pollutants, such the pesticide DDT, have their place. The World Health Organisation support its use for control of malaria transmitting mosquitoes stating:
DDT is still needed and used for disease vector control simply because there is no alternative of both equivalent efficacy and operational feasibility, especially for high-transmission areas.
3. Synthetic chemicals cause cancer
News outlets are fond of reporting about research showing “links” between particular chemicals and occurrences of cancer and other diseases. Sometimes the stories even claim that a substance definitely causes cancer or definitely cures it.
But more often than not these reports only cover part of the scientists’ conclusions. They just mention that an effect on cancer (either positively or negatively) was seen in the presence of a chemical. This is what we call a correlation, but it does not necessarily imply a causal link.

For example, the number of diagnosed autism cases correlates with sales of organic produce, but no one would seriously suggest that man-made chemicals used on farms somehow protects people from autism.
The point is that correlation on its own isn’t that useful, unless it is accompanied by other observations such as a plausible mechanism to explain it. But once a correlation is seen then scientists can start looking for that other supporting information.
4. Chemical exposure is a ticking time-bomb
Phrases such as “cocktail of chemicals” and “time-bomb” are pretty emotive, and they certainly make for good headlines. But we permanently live among a cocktail of chemicals and have done so ever since life first evolved in a chemical soup.
So why have we suddenly become more aware of all the chemicals in our environment? In part, it is due to amazingly sensitive technologies that allow minute quantities of chemicals to be detected. It really isn’t difficult for a chemist to find minute quantities of antibiotics in a swimming pool or cocaine in water supply.
5. We are subjects in an unregulated, uncontrolled experiment
There is no conspiracy. The reality is that the use, manufacture and disposal of chemicals are strictly regulated and controlled.
Each new synthetic chemical used as a food ingredient passes through a series of safety tests before it is allowed by the relevant body, such as the UK Food Standards Agency. New medicines go through clinical trials, which are even more rigorous tests, before the drug agency, such as the US Food and Drug Administration, allows it to be marketed. Even the tiny amount of waste chemicals produced by university research labs are managed according to the hazardous waste management rules of local governments.
Chemists in academia and industry have to adhere to these regulations in the process inventing or manufacturing amazing new chemicals to better our lives.

11 Toxic Chemicals Affecting Brain Development In Children

The list of chemicals that can affect brain development in children has grown. In a study out today in The Lancet Neurology, researchers outline new chemicals that may be contributing to what they dub the “global, silent pandemic of neurodevelopmental toxicity.” In 2006, the team had released a list of five neurotoxins that may contribute to everything from cognitive deficits to attention problems. Now that list is expanded, based on new research that has since accumulated on chemicals linked to developmental disorders in children. Today, they outline six more.
“The greatest concern is the large numbers of children who are affected by toxic damage to brain development in the absence of a formal diagnosis,” said study author Philippe Grandjean, of the Harvard School of Public Health. “They suffer reduced attention span, delayed development, and poor school performance. Industrial chemicals are now emerging as likely causes.”
Neurobehavioral problems, like autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, affect about 10-15% of kids born today, the authors say. Genes play a large role in some of these disorders – but not that large. Only about 30-40% of the cases of the disorders can be accounted for by genes alone, so environment must make up the other part. Outlining those compounds can be difficult, but the research is mounting, and pointing to a growing list of chemicals that we should avoid.
Because of the frequency with which these chemicals are present in our everyday lives – even banned ones – and the rising rates of developmental disorders in children, the authors say that urgent change should take place: “A new framework of action is needed.”
Here are the 11 chemicals for which there is strong evidence of connection to neurodevelopmental disorders in children:
Lead–This is one of the most extensively researched compounds in terms of neurodevelopment, and has been consistently linked to serious deficits, including low IQ. Its effects seem to be permanent, leading to the conclusion that there is no safe level of exposure.
Methylmercury–Affecting the neurological development of the fetus,exposure often comes from maternal intake of fish containing high levels of mercury, according to the World Health Organization and the EPA.
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) – This family of chemicals has routinely been associated with reduced cognitive function in infancy and childhood. It is often present in foods, particularly fish, and can be passed along in breast milk.
Arsenic – When absorbed through drinking water, this chemical has been linked to reduced cognitive function in schoolchildren. Follow-up studies from the Morinaga milk poisoning incident have linked it to neurological disease in adulthood.
Toluene – Used as a solvent, maternal exposure has been linked to brain development problems and attention deficit in the child, according to the EPA and OSHA.
Manganese – In the drinking water in Bangladesh, for example, this chemical has been linked to lower scores in math, diminished intellectual function, and ADHD.
Fluoride – Higher levels of this chemical has been connected with a 7-point decrease in IQ in children.
Chlorpyrifos and DDT (pesticides) – Linked to structural abnormalities of the brain and neurodevelopmental problems that persist up to age 7. These pesticides are banned in many parts of the world (U.S. included), but still used in many lower-income countries. They have recently been linked to Alzheimer’s disease as well.
Tetrachloroethylene (AKAperchlorethylene)– These solvents have been linked to hyperactivity and aggressive behavior, and increased risk of psychiatric diagnosis. Mothers in certain professional roles, like nurse, chemist, cleaner, hairdresser, and beautician had higher levels of exposure.
The polybrominateddiphenyl ethers – These flame retardants are banned now, but believed to be neurotoxins. Prenatal exposure has been linked to neurodevelopmental disorders in the child.
Two more compounds of concern are bisphenol A (BPA), a common plastics additive, and phthalate, found in many cosmetics. BPA is an endocrine (hormone) disruptor, and, strongly suspected to affect neurodevelopment in children, it has been banned in baby bottles and sippy cups. Phthalates, which are common in personal products like nail polish and hair spray, have been routinely linked to shortened attention span and impaired social interactions in children.

The developing human brain is incredibly vulnerable to chemical exposures, both in utero and in early childhood, and these changes can be lifelong. “During these sensitive life stages,” say the authors, “chemicals can cause permanent brain injury at low levels of exposure that would have little or no adverse effect in an adult.”
The neurotoxin “pandemic” is disturbing enough that the authors strongly recommend having mandatory tests for chemicals, which many have been arguing for years. One common complaint has been that when one compound does finally become banned, another equally toxic and often untested chemical may take its place. More rigorous testing, though complicated to carry out, might address this major issue.
“The problem is international in scope,” says Grandjean,“and the solution must therefore also be international. We have the methods in place to test industrial chemicals for harmful effects on children’s brain development—now is the time to make that testing mandatory.”
Avoiding these chemicals can be difficult, because they are so prevalent, and present in food, cosmetics, receipt papers, and containers. 
But reading labels and avoiding certain products is a start.
