3 Ways to Tell Whether Your Food is Healthy

By Genevieve Cunningham

Most people are interested in living a healthy lifestyle. Part of this is paying attention to the food that goes into your mouth. If you're not already used to eating a healthy diet, it can be tough to make the switch. In order to make it easier, check out these three tips that can tell you whether a meal is healthy just by looking.
Look for Something Green
You can tell a lot about a meal just from the first glance. If you look at your dinner plate and everything is beige, it's probably not the healthiest meal. Look specifically for something green. If you don't see anything green, you probably need to add something. Green foods often contain many nutrients and are incredibly healthy for the body. Asparagus, green beans, green peas, a salad. It doesn't really matter which green food you choose, but get something green for your meal in order to make it healthy. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to spot whether a meal is healthy without digging into the specifics.
Notice Fried Foods
Fried foods are delicious; we all know it. But unfortunately, fried foods are generally not very healthy. When you first take a look at your plate, notice if any of the foods are fried. Things such as french fries, fried chicken, and even chicken fried steak can mean that your meal has far too many calories. If you can avoid fried foods, that's the best choice. But if you want to enjoy a fried food from time to time, just make sure that you are eating these goodies in moderation.
Look at the Portion Sizes
Most of us eat far too much food. We don't measure, and so our portions end up being much larger than we intend. If you're using a regular sized plate and the food fills up the entire space, it's possible that your portions are too big. Take note of how much plate you can see around your food. While using a measuring device will be your best bet, this is a quick and easy way to spot large portion sizes with very little effort.
Eating healthy is very important for your body and your overall health, but unless you're used to it, it can be difficult to make sure that your diet is as healthy as it should be. Use these tips to spot a healthy meal from far away. With a little time and patience, a little practice, and a little willpower, your diet will be on track and your health will be better than ever.
