Top three factors for improving your eyesight naturally

by: Derek Henry

eye

(NaturalNews) When looking to improve your eyesight, it seems that eye exercises are the most commonly prescribed method to do so. Although it is an important component, there are many other factors you need to consider if you want to seriously improve your eyesight.

Detoxify your liver

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, there is a strong relationship between your liver and eye health. Improving the health of your liver can often help prevent and improve eye conditions.

The liver is your main detoxifier and filter of your bloodstream. Any toxins you ingest eventually end up in your liver to be broken down and excreted from your body. The better your liver is at detoxification, the fewer toxins you will have in your body.

However, when the liver becomes compromised, the quantity of toxins increases, causing free radical damage and harm to your organs and tissues. The delicate retina and macula in your eyes are very vulnerable to free radical damage, and it can have a seriously negative impact on your vision. Free radicals can attack the retina and result in the breakdown of healthy tissue.

Liver blood deficiency can cause blurry vision, short sightedness, dry eyes and floaters. If you have excessive liver heat, it can result in painful, burning and blood shot eyes.

Based on these points alone, it becomes apparent that detoxifying your liver is an important component to improving your eyesight naturally.

Nourish your eyes and brain

As a general rule, eating plenty of raw vegetables that are rich in antioxidants and various carotenoids (typically yellow, orange and red pigments) will help protect and improve eyesight. This is mainly accomplished through lutein and zeaxanthin, two specific antioxidants found in large quantities around the lens and retina of the eyes, which have been shown to reduce the risk of macular degeneration.

Foods that are high in carotenoids:

• Carrots
• Sweet potatoes
• Pumpkin
• Spinach
• Broccoli
• Goji berries
• Cantaloupe
• Apricots

Another important source is astaxanthin, known as the "King of Carotenoids."

Also consider eyebright herb, cayenne pepper, red raspberry and bayberry bark for additional benefits, as well as foods high in zinc such as pumpkin seeds, spinach, beans, beef and chicken.

Another important part of clear vision is brain function, so ensure that you eat plenty of healthy brain foods as well like wild-caught salmon, avocados, coconut oil, hemp, walnuts and brazil nuts.

Eye exercises

One of the best ways to do eye exercises is to use the sun as the focal point (do not look at it directly but, rather, around it) during less intense sunlight hours (typically before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.) in order to strengthen the "oculo-endocrine system."

Quite simply, the key to this therapy is the invisible ultraviolet band, and the retina. While the visible bands of light stimulate the retina's cone and rods that produce vision, the invisible band stimulates the adjacent epithelial cells, which transmit the stimulus as a powerful nerve impulse through the optic nerve directly to the pituitary and pineal glands. This is a powerful healing and strengthening exercise for the eyes.

To put this powerful force to use, try the "sun blinking exercise":

• Look once to the north of the sun (about 15 degrees above it) while blinking the eyes for 3-5 seconds
• Do the same after looking to the east (right), south (below) and west (left) of the sun

Again, do not look directly at the sun, as the as the part of the retina we want to hit with the rays of the sun is on the sides and not the center.

Enjoy your new and improved vision.

HOW TO HEAL YOUR EYESIGHT NATURALLY

eyesight
I have alright eyes, although for many years I did wear glasses. Several years ago I began feeling as though I wanted my eyes to be better, and I didn't have thousands of dollars to spend on laser surgery. So I began practicing healing my eyes with will alone, and some various ingredients that I had picked up along the way.
The basis is to recognize that all of the strain and stress in your eyes is not solely related to your eyes, but the stress that you are carrying around in your body, particularly in your face, which relates heavily to your brain as well. Beginning by realizing the stress in your face – and relaxing the muscles around your eyes is the first step of this, and understand that healing is a process which can take some time, especially if your external environment is a particularly stressful one.
Close your eyes gently and look into the sun absorbing the light (also while relaxing the muscles). This can facilitate a calm, warming soothing feeling across your whole face and even the rest of your body, and can greatly help relax :)
There is also food that is great for your eyes, such as Carrots, Eggs, and Almonds! (Just make sure it’s organic!)
So a few days ago I stumbled upon this video below and I got super excited about it! The results that I've had have been noticeable to me, but I had never been able to put it into words or describe it as i’m able to now.
Upon watching the video, I found myself pleasantly surprised.  This guy is a legitimate doctor, who has used a method from a “renegade optometrist” from about a hundred years ago who put together a solid formula for healing your eyes.

Everything he says really resonates with me, and I think even though there’s a lot more to it, it sounds a lot like what I've been practicing. For example, as I wrote earlier when I wake up in the morning I like to go outside and just close my eyes gently and stare into the sun. It not only helps my eyes wake up, but my whole mind wakes up! Not to mention, my eyes lose their “morning grogginess” completely, and my eyesight seems to be really great, much better than had if I did not do it.
Likewise, the whole “don’t squint” thing is another practice, and it totally makes sense! Like, if you’re whole face is squinting and stressed out all of the time, then that’s constricting the way your face and head receives energy – both with light through our eyes, energy in our 3rd eyes, or smells through our noses.
And if there’s no more strain, then your brain, eyes, and facial muscles can all function with ease and clarity. Energy can flow smoothly, and it only makes sense that your eyes will naturally improve as well :)
For all of us with glasses, lets give these tips a practice and see how we do!

20 Reasons Why Guava Is Truly The Ultimate Super Fruit.

by Dr Janardhana Hebbar

20 Reasons Why Guava Is Truly The Ultimate Super Fruit.

Guavas are plants in the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae) genus Psidium. The term “guava” appears to derive from the Arawak (indigenous peoples of the Caribbean) guayabo “guava tree”, via the Spanish guayaba. Another term for guavas is pera, derived from pear derived from Spanish or Portuguese common to regions around the western Indian Ocean. Amrood is another term used in Indian subcontinent and Middle East, possibly deriving from armoot meaning “pear” in Arabic and Turkish languages. In Egypt, it is called gawafa.
Classified as a berry by most botanists, each guava berry is covered by a rough green rind that turns yellow when ripe. The pulp inside occurs in colors of white, pink, or red with numerous tiny, semi-hard edible seeds, concentrated especially at its center. The fruit is soft when ripe with sweet musky aroma and creamy in texture. Ripe fruits have rich flavor with sweet-tart taste.
The early Spanish explorers of the 1500′s found Strawberry Guava, ‘Acca sellowiana O.,’ growing as a native tree in America, where they were firmly established from Mexico southward to Peru. They are native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. Guavas are now cultivated and naturalized throughout the tropics and subtropics in Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, subtropical regions of North America, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia and Spain.

TOP 20 HEALTH BENEFITS OF GUAVA:

  1. Relieves Diarrhea & Dysentery: Astringents, in guava, are alkaline in nature and have disinfectant and anti-bacterial properties, inhibiting microbial growth and removing extra mucus from the intestines. Other nutrients such as vitamin-C, Carotenoids and potassium, strengthen and tone the digestive system.
  2. Eye Care: Vitamin A or retinol slows down the appearance of cataracts, macular degeneration, and prevents degradation of eyesight and night blindness.
  3. Brain Health: Guavas contain Vitamin B3 and Vitamin B6 (niacin and pyridoxine), which helps in improving blood circulation to the brain, relaxing your nerves and stimulating cognitive function.
  4. Regulates thyroid: Guavas contain the trace element Copper which regulates thyroid metabolism, helping to control hormone production and absorption.
  5. Diabetics cure: Rich in fibre and with a low glycaemic index, guavas, help to regulate the absorption of sugar by the body and can be consumed for prevention and cure of Type 2 diabetes.
  6. Effective Laxative: Constipation is caused when food is stuck in our colon. Guava, super rich in fibre, aids the body in retaining water and thoroughly cleaning your intestines and excretory system.
  7. Nervous Relaxant: Guava is magnesium rich food which acts as a nervous relaxant. It helps to relax muscles and nerves of the body.
  8. For pregnant mothers: Guavas contain Folic acid, or Vitamin B-9, which is recommended for pregnant women since it can help in developing the foetus’s nervous system and protect the newborn from neurological disorders.
  9. For Fertility: Guavas contain good amount of Folate which help to boost fertility in humans.
  10. Speeds Absorption:  Being rich in Manganese, Guavas help the body in quick absorption of key nutrients like biotin, vitamins, minerals from the food that we eat.
  11. Immunity Booster: Vitamin C provides a huge boost in antioxidants, which are the major lines of defense against the proliferation of free radicals in the body.
  12. Infection Control:Relieves coughs and colds by reducing mucus, disinfecting the respiratory tract, throat and lungs, and inhibiting microbial activity with its astringent properties.
  13. Aids Weight loss: Guava is very rich in vitamins, proteins, fibre and minerals and has no cholesterol and a very low number of digestible carbohydrates.
  14. Cancer Cure: Being rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants like Lycopene, eating guavas can protect your cells from damage and reduce chances of prostate, breast, and oral cancers.
  15. Skin Care: Vitamins, minerals and nutrients, in conjunction with Guava’s astringent property, help keep your skin toned, hydrated, improves elasticity, removes blemishes, acne, dark spots, blackheads, wrinkles and pimples.
  16. Scurvy Buster: A deficiency of vitamin-C can cause scurvy, and proper intake of super vitamin-C rich guavas are the best remedy for this dangerous disease.
  17. Anti-ageing: Guavas are rich in Vitamin A, B, C and potassium which are good antioxidants and detoxifiers. Lycopene and carotene protect the healthy cells from toxins and UV rays rendering your skin wrinkles free.
  18. Blood pressure Stabilizer: Potassium in Guava helps to reduce cholesterol in the blood and prevents it from thickening, thereby maintaining the fluidity of blood and reducing blood pressure.
  19. Combats Hair Loss: Rich in vitamin C, guava helps promote healthy hair growth. It also helps in combating hair loss problems.
  20. Oral Care:  The juice of guava leaves has been known to cure toothaches, swollen gums & oral ulcers, and the juice speeds up the healing power of wounds when applied externally.

  21. Side Effects and Precautions:

No side effects have been reported for excessive consumption of guava. But herbal supplements derived from the plant and fruits need to be taken under medical supervision.

How to Combat Computer Eye Strain

  • Dr. Michael Greger
What happens to our eyesight when we sit in front of a computer all day?

How to Combat Computer Eye StrainAs researchers from the SUNY College of Optometry note, the rise in computer screens “has led to an increase in ocular and visual problems, including eye discomfort, blurring of distant objects, eye strain, and asthenopia (visual fatigue).” This has caused so-called “nearwork-induced transient myopia.” That’s when after staring at a computer screen for a while we look out the window and things start out all blurry. Our vision becomes blurred because our poor little ciliary muscles pulling at our lens are locked in this constant state of contraction to keep that near focus. Over time, this may have long-term adverse consequences.

How to Combat Computer Eye Strain

Experts in the field recommend taking 4-12 minute breaks staring out the window every hour.

We can also aid our vision with our diet. A double-blind placebo-controlled crossover study, for example, found a significant improvement in refractive values and eyestrain symptoms when subjects ate black currants compared to a placebo.

However, what passes for currants in the U.S. are usually champagne grape raisins, not actual black currants, which were banned in the U.S. a century ago at the behest of the lumber industry. The lumber industry feared that they might spread a plant disease that affects white pine (which we hardly even harvest any more). Black currants are, however, currently making a comeback (and the ban has been lifted in some states), though any anthocyanin-rich berry might have similar benefits (such as bilberries, blueberries, cranberries, black raspberries and red raspberries).

Foods vs. Supplements

Why bother with whole bilberries or black currants when we could just take powder capsules? Because, as we’ve seen over and over again, when we test supplements, we’re lucky if they actually contain what is listed on the label. Furthermore, even for products containing bilberries, one study found that labeling was often uninformative, misleading, or both, something or which the herbal supplement market is infamous. The largest study to date found that it appears most herbal supplement labels lie.

A Brief History of Bilberries

Bilberries gained notoriety during World War II when it was said that pilots in the British Royal Air Force “were eating bilberry jam to improve their night vision.” It turns out this may have been a story concocted to fool the Germans. The real reason the Brits were able to suddenly target Nazi bombers in the middle of the night before the bombers even made it to the English channel was likely not because of bilberries, but because of a top secret new invention the British needed to keep quiet: radar.

For best results when it comes to computer eye strain, stick to whole berries with blue and red pigments, and don’t forget to give your eyes a break each hour.
