Gum Disease: The Silent Killer, 7 Home Remedies To Cure It Naturally

recedinggums
Healthy nutrition may be key to helping fight gum disease, which is not only important to oral health, but also to general health and well being.
Eighty-five percent of American adults suffer from some form of gum disease, and 50 percent have moderate to severe periodontitis. Of those diagnosed, only 3 percent seek treatment, putting the rest at risk for a number of serious health issues—so the odds are that you have it … and you just don’t know it.
Take control of your health—your life—by finding out about gum infections.
8 Home Remedies To Treat It Naturally
Baking Soda
Mix plain baking soda with enough water to create a paste, and rub it along your gum-line with your fingers.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is also be featured in several remedies for swollen and bleeding gums. Simply rub the gel of aloe vera on the gums and let it sit. Do this repeatedly until the problem subsides.
Lemon Juice
The anti inflammatory properties contained in lemon juice could be very useful in the healing treatment of gum infections. Furthermore, lemons contain vitamin C, and that may empower your gums to fight off the disease. Squeeze the juice of the lemon and add a bit of salt to it. Combine the salt and lemon juice well until it turns into a paste of sorts. Apply this paste on to your own teeth and leave it on for several minutes before gargling with water.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is really an exceptionally effective antiseptic that nature provides. Rub a little bit of tea tree oil in the gums to stop gum disease and also to help alleviate symptoms. You can even locate a toothpaste that includes tea tree oil to help fight bacteria when brushing.

Clove Oil
Clove oil is really a typical ingredient in quite a few natural treatment options for bleeding gums. Some national health practitioners propose rubbing clove oil to the affected gums, but warns that one might experience a burning sensation in the beginning. The burning sensation shouldn’t last too long, though.
Mustard Oil
Mustard oil is found in every home. It is extensively used as a cooking medium for its health benefits. It is rich in vitamins and has antioxidant properties. Take half teaspoon of pure mustard oil in the palm of your hand. With your clean finger rub the oil all over the gums using a gentle circular motion. Rinse with warm water. This will increase the blood circulation, stimulate the gums and soothe the pain. For strong gums use this application daily.
Turmeric
Turmeric is another common ingredient to be found in every home. Its potency to reduce inflammation and fight infection is well known. Take one teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it with honey to form a thick smooth paste. Apply gently all over the gums and teeth. Leave for three minutes. Rinse with water. The gums will be soothed and feel less tender. Do it every night before going to bed.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a strong anti-microbial as well as having soothing anti-inflammatory properties that can naturally protect the gums from gingivitis. Oil pulling is an effective treatment for receding gums.

Unhealthy teeth and gums linked to chronic disease

by: Jonathan Landsman

disease

According to the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, "Dental caries (tooth decay) remains the most prevalent chronic disease in both children and adults." In addition, according to the Centers for Disease Control, "One out of every two American adults aged 30 and over has periodontal disease." Clearly, we must stop relying on conventional (ineffective) dental procedures to protect our health.

Gum disease is preventable.
Periodontal (gum) disease is one of many chronic inflammatory diseases which affect the gums and bone supporting the teeth. Left untreated, gum disease can lead to tooth loss plus many other diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. On the next NaturalNews Talk Hour, find out how to take better care of your teeth and gums -- holistically.

Dental amalgams (mercury-based fillings) cause chronic disease

In Feb. 1998, a group of the world's top mercury researchers announced that mercury from amalgam fillings can permanently damage the brain, kidneys and immune system of children. In addition, a large-scale epidemiological study revealed that mercury is linked to digestive disorders, sleep disturbances, concentration problems, memory loss, bleeding gums and many other mouth disorders.

Can mercury cause Alzheimer's disease? Dr. Boyd Haley and a team of scientist exposed rats to levels of mercury vapor diluted to account for the size difference between humans and rats. The rats developed tissue damage "indistinguishable" from that of Alzheimer's disease. By the way, repeating the experiment showed the same results.

On the next NaturalNews Talk Hour, Jonathan Landsman and Mark McClure, D.D.S., talk about the dangers of dental amalgams, root canals, how to deal with temporomandibular joint disorders and sleep apnea plus much more.

5 ways to prevent gum disease

Did you know that poor gum health dramatically increases the risk for heart disease and stroke? In addition, gum disease can make respiratory conditions -- like bronchitis -- worse. Ultimately, when you ignore gum disease -- you increase your risk of cancer.

So, here are some simple steps to take to prevent gum disease.

1. Brush your teeth -- twice a day with natural (non-fluoride) toothpaste. As a great antiseptic, try brushing with a few drops of neem or tea tree oil.

2. Keep your toothbrush clean by soaking it in a capful of hydrogen peroxide, once a week, to kill unwanted bacteria.

3. Rinse your mouth with colloidal silver -- a few times per day -- to kill unfriendly pathogens.

4. Try rinsing your mouth -- for 10 minutes or more -- with baking soda/sea salt mixtures or coconut oil. In fact, "oil pulling" is a great way to kill bacteria and parasites that cause plaque -- plus your teeth will be whiter.

5. Make your own (or buy) high-quality herbal mouthwash. Use herbs like goldenseal, myrrh and calendula -- which have been used for hundreds of years for dental health.

Don't forget. The next NaturalNews Talk Hour will provide valuable information about the benefits of oral health and disease prevention.

Forget Fluoride! Make Your Own Toothpaste with These 3 Easy Recipes

Forget Fluoride! Make Your Own Toothpaste with These 3 Easy Recipes

make your own home made toothpaste - forget fluoride
By April McCarthy
Ingredients found in conventional toothpastes — including sodium fluoride, synthetic dyes derived from petroleum or coal tar, sodium hydroxide (also known as lye or caustic soda), sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide, artificial sweeteners, and triclosan — might make us think twice about the products we employ for the sake of our teeth.
Of course, we’re not actively swallowing the stuff, but the gums absorb it, and it’s unavoidable that a bit will slink down the gullet from time to time. And given that most of us brush our teeth over 700 times a year, there’s no shortage of opportunity to ingest ingredients better left in the lab. It’s time to get crafty and create your own toothpaste that will leave your breath minty clean.
The most controversial of all the ingredients is fluoride. Although fluoride has been proven to cause neurotoxicity, very little published research has elaborated on acute fluoride poisoning and neurotoxicity in adults and children.
A study published in Neurologia showed that the prolonged ingestion of fluoride may cause significant damage to health and particularly to the nervous system. A report in a peer-reviewed open access journal published by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies to investigate the effects of increased fluoride exposure and delayed neurobehavioral development. The results confirmed toxicity to the brain.
Most people are quite shocked when they review the following info-graphic on fluoride levels in water and toothpaste:
Fluoride Dangers
Thankfully you can eliminate fluoride from your dental routine by making your own natural and effective toothpaste.

Make Your Own Toothpaste

Recipe #1 -
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt, finely ground
  • 10 drops peppermint, clove, or citrus pure essential oil
  • few drops of water
Recipe #2 -
  • 6 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil (must be liquid)
  • 10 drops peppermint, clove, or citrus pure essential oil
Recipe #3 -
  • 5 parts Calcium Magnesium Powder
  • 2 parts Baking Soda
  • 3-5 parts coconut oil to get desired texture
  • Optional ingredients: Essential oils for flavor (mint, cinnamon, and orange are all good), Grapefruit Seed Extract, Myrrh and Trace Minerals
  • 3 parts Xylitol powder (alcohol sugar) – this ingredient is not completely necessary, but just keeps it from tasting bitter
Instructions:
To keep things simple, just use a teaspoon or tablespoon, depending on the size batch you are making.
1. Mix all powdered ingredients well in a bowl. If you are starting with tablets, powder them in a food processor. If you are starting with capsules, dump them out into the bowl.
2. Add oil one part at a time until you get desired consistency.
3. Add any optional ingredients, including Essential Oils for flavor.
4. Store in small container like 1/2 pint glass jar. To use, either dip clean toothbrush into it, or use popsicle stick or spoon to put on toothbrush.

A Dentist Exposes the Root Canal Cover up

IS THERE A TOXIC TIME-BOMB IN YOUR MOUTH?
One of the most feared dental procedures is the root canal. It can also be one of the most painful. For the thousands of people who have them, most are unaware of the danger that it may pose to their health. More than 25 million root canals are performed each year in the United States.

What is a root canal?

A root canal is a procedure where the dentist drills out decay, removes the infected pulp and then places a file down the canal to remove the remaining pulp. The canals are then filled with a plastic material (gutta percha). The tooth is now basically dead and remaining in your mouth.

What are the issues with root canals?

The issue lies with anaerobic bacteria that remains in the tooth canal which can be released into the blood stream causing mild to serious health conditions such as MS, ALS and even cancer. Dr Hal Huggins’ website shares the specific issues with having something that is “dead” in your mouth and which toxic bacteria have been found when tested.
root-canal-therapy
Dr George Meinig, DDS wrote a book called “The Root Canal Cover Up” which addresses the issues of root canals . In this book he discusses an extensive research study in which 5,000 animals were involved. The research revealed that bacteria and toxins were able to escape into the blood circulation around the bony socket of the tooth. They were also able to show how these organisms were responsible for a high percentage of the chronic and degenerative disease conditions which are epidemic in America.
Approximately 25% of the population have strong immune systems and are able to live symptom and issue free after a root canal. This causes dentists and endodontists to believe, falsely, that root canals are perfectly safe.
However, there are approximately 75% who’s immune systems have been compromised through poor nutrition, accidents, illnesses, stress, etc. These are the individuals who develop symptoms that cause them to go from doctor to doctor in attempts to find answers to their maladies. A high percentage of these cases are due to the bacteria coming from their root canal filled teeth, or from tooth extractions, or other foci of infection.
Recently, Dr Robert Jones, a researcher, discovered a very high correlation between root canals and breast cancer. He performed a five year study of 300 breast cancer patients which showed that 93% of the women with breast cancer had root canals. Seven percent had other dental issues.
An interesting note was that tumors, in most cases, manifested on the same side of the body as the root canal(s) or where dental restoration we performed. Dr Jones determined that toxins from the bacteria in the infected tooth and jawbone may inhibit the body’s natural ability to suppress tumor development.
My personal story is similar. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000. The cancerous nodule was located on the right side of my thyroid gland. I had one root canal tooth in my mouth which was located on the right side of my body in a lower molar.
When fighting cancer naturally I had 11 amalgam fillings removed along with pulling the root canal tooth. When extracted my dentist noted that there was black sludge under the tooth along with necrosis of the jaw bone. It was after I cleaned up my mouth that I began to experience a more rapid healing from cancer.
Dental health is important to your full body health. One of the things that I use are Young Living dental products that contain Thieves Oil. Clove is a key ingredient in this blend and it has been shown to help heal teeth and combat dental bacteria that contributes to gingivitis.

Oil Pulling For Whiter Teeth and Better Breath

Oil Pulling HeaderIt has taken quite some time, but oil pulling has finally gained some popularity in the United States. Used primarily in Ayurvedic medicine, oil pulling is a fantastic oral detoxification procedure that is simply done by swishing a tablespoon of oil (typically coconut, olive or sesame) in your mouth for 10-20 minutes.

What is Oil Pulling? by Dr. Josh Axe and Eric Zielinski

Oil pulling works by cleaning (detoxifying) the oral cavity in a similar way that soap cleans dirty dishes. It literally sucks the dirt (toxins) out of your mouth and creates a clean, antiseptic oral environment that contributes to the proper flow of dental liquid that is needed to prevent cavities and disease.
This unbelievably effective procedure has been used for centuries as a traditional India remedy to:
  • Cure tooth decay
  • Prevent bad breath
  • Heal bleeding gums
  • Whiten teeth
  • Soothe throat dryness
  • Heal cracked lips
  • Strengthening gums and jaw
Oil Pulling Benefits
In fact, oil pulling is mentioned in the Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita where it is claimed to cure about 30 systemic diseases ranging from headaches and tooth decay to diabetes and asthma.

How to Do Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil

We recommend using unrefined, organic coconut oil and a drop or two of clove or tea tree essential oils to achieve the best antiseptic and anti-fungal effects of oil pulling. Here are some tips:
1. Put 2 teaspoons of coconut oil into your mouth. The best time to oil pull (like most other detoxification procedures) is first thing in the morning right after you get out of bed.
2. Swish for 20 minutes.  Don’t let the 20 minute time frame deter you. You won’t even notice 20 minutes have gone by if you do this during your normal morning routine (i.e. while you shower, put your clothes on and prep for the day).  But, if you can only do it for 5-10 minutes, it’s still worthwhile.
3. Spit oil into the trash. Don’t be shocked if the oil/saliva mixture you spit out is milky white or yellow.
4. Immediately afterwards, rinse your mouth out with warm water. Use salt water for added antimicrobial properties.
5. Finally, brush your teeth as normal.  For additional benefits, use my natural toothpaste recipe with baking soda, coconut oil and clove essential oil.
Note: This should be a relatively relaxing process, so don’t feel compelled to vigorously swish your mouth with oil for the entire time or else you’re bound to get sore jaw muscles. Simply move the oil in your mouth and through your teeth without swallowing any of it.

The Research

As stated by one study, “The myth that the effect of oil-pulling therapy on oral health was just a placebo effect has been broken”.
Here are just a couple studies proving oil pulling benefits on your oral and whole body health.

Oil Pulling To Prevent Cavities

In 2008, the Journal of Indian Society of Pedodontics and Preventative Dentistry published a triple-blind random control trial that evaluated the effects oil pulling with sesame oil has onSteptococcus mutans bacterial count in plaque and saliva.
Twenty boys were recruited to be part of two groups; one in which 10 practiced oil pulling and another that used regular mouthwash for 10 minutes every day in the morning.
After collecting samples for 2 weeks, it was discovered that, even though the chemicals in mouth wash were slightly more effective in reducing the bacteria, oil pulling was significantly effective in killing S. mutans, one of the primary causes of cavities.
However I believe if coconut oil was used which has anti-microbial properties unlike sesame oil we may have seen that coconut oil was just as effective or more effective.

Oil Pulling Heals Gum Disease and Bad Breath

In 2010, the same journal shared the results of a similar study that evaluated the effects oil pulling has on bad breath and oral yeast. Again, taking 20 young volunteers, the results of this study were even more in favor of oil pulling than the one above.
According to the authors, “Oil pulling therapy has been equally effective to the chemicals in mouth wash on bad breath and candida”. Additionally, the researchers discovered that oil pulling also has statistically significant effects on reducing the gingival index, a marker that determines the severity for gingivitis (gum disease).
At the end of the day, you have nothing to lose, but everything to gain from oil pulling. There are relatively no known oil pulling side effects and, as we’ve seen in the research, the list of benefits is quite remarkable. Try it today and make it a part of your natural hygiene routine!
